Biography

State Representative Kristi Thibaut is an independent-minded Texan with a wealth of public service, non-profit and private sector experience who brings a common sense approach to solving problems in Austin. Elected in 2008, Kristi is honored to serve District 133, which encompasses parts of west and southwest Houston.

During her first year in office, Kristi filed or sponsored legislation to protect homeowners from foreclosure, lower utility rates, freeze college tuition rates, improve apartment standards, and protect school teachers from assault. She has held two successful job fairs in District 133, sponsored workshops on lowering utility rates, financing a college education, and fighting property appraisal increases. At the conclusion of the 2009 legislative session in Austin, Kristi was voted Freshman of the Year by her House colleagues, and by the Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas (CLEAT).

Prior to serving in the Legislature, Kristi managed numerous events and raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for the Houston chapter of the American Heart Association. She also served at the Capitol as a legislative aide to former State Representative Judy Hawley. Kristi was proud to be the first Executive Director of the Texas Youth Hunting Association, a joint project of the Texas Wildlife Association and the State of Texas, which promoted youth hunting, conservation and firearms safety across the state. Kristi also worked several years in the private sector for 
Continental Airlines.

In addition to her professional work, Kristi has served as a volunteer for the American Heart Association and the Houston Kiwanis Club, and was a founding member of the Houston Democratic Forum, an organization of fiscally conservative, socially moderate young professionals.

 Kristi is a native of Bay City and a graduate of the University of Texas-Austin, with degrees in 
kinesiology and government. She, her husband Mark, an oil and gas professional, and their son Christopher live in Briargrove Park.
